Kingston Welcomes Annual Film Festival

Last weekend, Kingston upon Thames welcomed the annual inaugural Satisfied Eye International Film Festival at the ODEON Cinema and Rose Theatre.

Ran by Chris Hastings and supported by his wife Lorna Hastings, both Chris along with other judges watch and review a range of short animations, films and documentaries submitted for free by film directors in a competition of thirty different awards.

Those selected for each award then had their work shown alongside workshops and Q&As throughout Friday to Sunday.

This idea was inspired by Chris’ observation that “Q&As and workshops allow the audience to interact in a way that they never really get to.”

Friday in particular guested Journalist and Film Director Carole Cassier under the Stranger than Fiction category where her thought-provoking short documentary ‘The Quiet Rebel’ looked into internet sensation Casey Jenkins’ Vaginal Knitting Live Art Performance and the internet trolls that targeted both her and her artwork in question of its “art”.

This screening was followed by a Q&A where audience members had the opportunity to ask Cassier directly about her documentary and Casey Jenkins’ artwork.

The festival itself is run entirely by volunteers with the thirty winning film directors showcasing their work for free and the money from tickets going towards the overall running of the festival.
